Being new to the study of African Dance and culture, she is motivated by a desire to learn and perfect the art of Congolese dance. Antionette began dancing as a part of her high school cheerleading team in Chicago. At age sixteen, Antionette moved to Port Huron, MI and became a member of the Thunderbirds Dance Team. Upon high school graduation, she enrolled as a student at the University of Michigan. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the Michigan Dance Team, performing hip-hop, modern and jazz choreographed routines. After obtaining her undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University, Antionette entered the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) in 2000 and joined the doctoral degree program in Cellular and Molecular Biology (CMB) in 2001. After obtaining a PhD in the spring of 2008, Dr. Williams is currently enjoying a career as a researcher in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at University of Michigan Medical Center. Antionette is also the proud mother of teenage daughter, Latrece, who also occasionally dances with the company.
